MLB Draft

The MLB draft was tonight and the first player taken was no surprise again.  Bryce Harper, the 17 year old power hitter, was selected first by the Washington Nationals.  He's from Vegas and he played in Oklahoma for a summer team last year.  He was on the cover of SI when he was 16 and dropped out of high school to go to junior college so he could be drafted today.  He played one season at Southern Nevada ju-co against guys 3 and 4 years older than him.  He hit around .440 and 30 HR.  Kind of ridiculous for a guy who is supposed to be a JUNIOR in high school. 

Last year the Nationals selected Stephen Strasburg, a pitcher whose fastball tops out around 100 mph.  He had a stellar stint in the minors and makes his major league debut tomorrow night against the Pirates.  I watched his final minor league start the other night and can't wait to see him face major league hitting.  Sounds like the Nationals could be making a comeback in the next few years, assuming they will be able to sign Harper.
