Republic Gastropub

Gastropub
A gastropub concentrates on quality food. The name is a combination of pub and gastronomy and was coined in 1991 in London.

For those of you who don't know, OKC has a gastropub.  Its called Republic and its part of the new Classen Curve.  We didn't have the greatest experience but I'll get to that in a minute. 
First impression though: the place is actually pretty cool.   Its definitely a sports bar, which is obvious by the 30+ TVs in there, a couple huge ones hang over each end of the main walkway.  They even have some TVs and seating right out side set up like a living room with some nice comfy chairs.  They also have a ton of beer selection, including an impressive number of beers on tap, including my recent beverage of choice, Sam Adams Coastal Wheat. 

Jordan and I both had some pretty good food.  It is definitely a step up from your standard bar food.  The problem we had was with the staff.  We decided to seat ourselves at the bar instead of out in the restaurant.  Maybe that was our mistake, but the people working behind the bar were flat out awful.  It started out fine.  We sat down, they guy handed us food menus and drink menus and gave us a couple minutes to check it out.  He took our drink orders and brought them out in just a minute or two.  We weren't quite ready to order our food yet so we asked for just another minute. 

As we were waiting to finally order, the 4 bartenders/waiters were walking back and forth helping everyone else but us.  At times even looking right at us and our now empty beer glasses, not even saying a word.  We felt like we were literally being ignored.  Jordan was about to flip out.  One of the waiters stood right in front of us, made a drink, looked at us and walked off.  Jordan was even saying how unbelievable it was while he was standing there, loud enough for him to hear.  She even pushed her empty glass up to the edge right by his hand and he didn't even acknowledge her!  At one point we actually though maybe it was a joke they were playing on us.  We waited for about 20 minutes before a lady came up and asked us for a refill.  I told her we've actually been waiting a while to order food. 

We got our refill and our food soon after that.  Like I said, the food was really good, but again we struggled to get our next refill after we ate.  We just found it incredibly rude and unprofessional that someone working at a bar would not make it a priority to make sure everyone has a drink. 

I still think the place is worth trying, just maybe wait to be seated rather than jump up to the bar.
